This satin silk scarf is eco-printed with humble onion skins using the “dirty pot” method, allowing the natural dye bath to create its own quiet alchemy. Though every layer was wrapped with the same plant material, the outer folds absorbed more of the pot’s character, resulting in rich golden hues along the edges and ends, while the center—where it rests at the back of the neck—reveals a soft green shift. The gentle contrast creates a beautiful, organic variegation, like sunlight moving across late summer fields. I adore the way the two-tone onion skin texture feels both grounded and luminous, a reminder that subtle differences in exposure can transform something simple into something quietly extraordinary.

The dirty pot method is one of my favorite ways to dye: intuitive, creative, and gentler on both the maker and the environment, without the need for heavy chemical mordants or rigid measuring. It allows for a more hands-on, expressive approach to working with plants and fiber.

Metaphysically, onion skin is associated with protection, release, and gentle energetic cleansing.

Naturally Dyed Fiber Care

Always use a pH-neutral soap to help preserve colors and fibers. We recommend Seventh Generation, Ecos Free & Clear, or Dawn.

Silk

Hand wash gently in lukewarm water and PH neutral soap. Hang or lay flat to dry out of direct sunlight to preserve color and texture.
*Iron on low while slightly damp

*Natural Dye Note

Each garment is eco-printed and naturally dyed with real plants, so gentle variations in color and pattern are part of its natural beauty. While we photograph carefully to reflect true tones, lighting and screens may slightly affect how colors appear.
